The website TuitionCoach has a nice little free calculator that gives you a general idea of what your EFC (Expected Family Contribution) will be, based on the formulas used by the FAFSA and CSS (another financial aid formula used by many private colleges.) I looked all over the place for a little tool like this last winter! I had no idea what our EFC would be until I finished the FAFSA.

The site itself is a business that will help minimize college costs for an annual fee of $59 (there is a free membership level available as well.) I haven't tried it out but it looks legit and might be a good option for a time and cash strapped family looking for help with the financial aid minefield!
